Burbank is a city in Los Angeles County, California, located at the southeastern extremity of the San Fernando Valley. Burbank, 12 miles (19 kilometers) northwest of downtown Los Angeles, is noted for housing Walt Disney Studios, Warner Bros. Studios, and Nickelodeon Animation Studios, as well as the United States' biggest IKEA. The population was 103,340 at the time of the 2010 census.
Many media and entertainment companies, including Warner Bros. Entertainment, The Walt Disney Company, Nickelodeon Animation Studio, The Burbank Studios, Cartoon Network Studios with the West Coast branch of Cartoon Network, and Insomniac Games, are headquartered or have significant production facilities in Burbank, which is billed as the "Media Capital of the World" and is only a few miles northeast of Hollywood. Lockheed's Skunk Works, which built some of the most secret and technologically advanced planes, including the U-2 espionage planes that found Soviet Union missile components in Cuba in October 1962, was based near the Hollywood Burbank Airport.
Burbank is divided into two sections: a downtown/foothill region in the Verdugo Mountains' foothills, and a flatland component. Because both Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson were recorded at NBC's previous facilities, the city was referred to as "Beautiful Downtown Burbank." The community was named after David Burbank, a dentist and entrepreneur from New Hampshire who founded a sheep ranch in the area in 1867.
The Hollywood Sign, which is in the Hollywood Hills section of the Santa Monica Mountains, symbolizes the California dream of fortune, celebrity, and beauty. Some of the greatest views of the Hollywood Sign can be found in Burbank. Griffith Park, which is close by, is an excellent site to observe this monument. It may be seen from a few trails within the park, but if it's sign sightings you're after, head to the summit for a fantastic vista near Griffith Observatory.
If you're in Burbank during the winter, don't miss the magnificent LA Zoo Lights. There are gigantic illuminating animal exhibits, a walk-through Twinkle Tunnel, and even a water/laser show, so it's much more than just a few strings of holiday lights. Zoo Lights takes place from the end of November until the beginning of January. Tickets are available for purchase in person or online in advance.
It's simple to see why the Warner Brothers Studio tour is one of the most popular in Burbank. Back lots and sets from notable movies and television series such as Casablanca (1942) and Friends may be found at the Warner Brothers Studio. Every trip is different since the studio is always filming. One of the most recent additions is Stage 48: Script to Screen, an interactive soundstage. You may immerse yourself in the process of developing your own program, conduct a screen test at Central Perk, design a costume for the next superhero epic, or even take a Bat-pod for a spin around Gotham. There's also a museum showcasing Warner Bros. costumes, artifacts, and writings. And then there's action! Enjoys just the same amazing benefits.
