Granada Hills is a Los Angeles suburban area located in the San Fernando Valley. There is a sports program in the community, as well as a variety of city recreation centers. There are fourteen public and ten private schools in the area. Most of the buildings in Granada Hills are from the mid-century modern era. The "Balboa Highlands" tract, as well as the Knollwood Country Club area and the Knollwood Grove tract, were created by renowned developer Joseph Eichler. Many of these residences, located north of Rinaldi and west of Balboa, have been featured in films, advertisements, magazine photo shoots, and books about Eichler and mid-century architecture.
O'Melveny Park, Los Angeles' second biggest park, has a vast underdeveloped part and a much smaller developed component with a few dozen citrus trees, a tiny intermittent stream, and grass and picnic spots. This 672-acre (2.72 km2) park features hiking paths and fire roads, as well as a grassy peninsula with a view of the San Fernando Valley's northeastern region. Mission Point and its surroundings are well-known for mountain biking and hiking. The view from the summit of Mission Point (also known as "Mission Peak"), Granada Hills' highest point, is spectacular, taking in much of the San Fernando Valley. The Pacific Ocean and Downtown Los Angeles may be seen in clear weather. Deer, golden eagles, bobcats, mountain lions, raccoons, and coyotes live in the region around the top.
In just a few years, a commercial area, the Granada Women's Club, a school, the Granada Chamber of Commerce, and a slew of other organizations and enterprises helped to transform the village into a city. After the earthquake in Long Beach, in southern Los Angeles County, in 1933, school bungalows from Granada Hills were relocated to Long Beach and Venice to replace the school buildings that had been damaged. Because of its elevation of 1,000 feet above sea level and the prevailing air currents, Granada Hills is one of the few smog-free and almost frost-free neighborhoods in the vicinity. Balboa Highlands, a housing tract developed by architect Joseph Eichler, is packed with mid-century modern style residences, and Eichler architecture is prevalent in Granada Hills. Houses with pitched roofs and beam ceilings may be seen in many different Granada Hills districts. Take a trip through the Knollwood golf course on the east side of Balboa and Knollwood Grove on the west side of Balboa, which are both behind the Eichler complex.
