Lake View Terrace is a suburban neighborhood in the city of Los Angeles, California, located in the San Fernando Valley. The Angeles National Forest, Little Tujunga Canyon, Big Tujunga Canyon, Hansen Dam, Kagel Canyon, and a piece of the Verdugo Mountains are among the surrounding locations. The neighborhoods of Sylmar, San Fernando, Shadow Hills, Sunland, Sun Valley, and Pacoima are all close by. The 91342 ZIP code is shared by the neighborhood and Sylmar. The Foothill Freeway (Interstate 210) connects Lake View Terrace to the important thoroughfares of Foothill Boulevard, Glenoaks Boulevard, Van Nuys Boulevard, and Osborne Street.
Latinos, African Americans, Whites, and Asians make up the community, which is middle-class and ethnically diverse. The neighborhood is home to a big equestrian population and is one of the few remaining residential districts in Los Angeles with horse keeping zones. The beating of Rodney King by members of the Los Angeles Police Department in 1991 made Lake View Terrace famous across the world. Lake View Terrace was also the backdrop for much of Samuel L. Jackson's 2008 film Lakeview Terrace, even though the neighborhood was filmed in Walnut, California. Lake View Terrace, according to the Los Angeles Times' Alyson Pitarre, "is a magnet for outdoor activity." Equestrian paths, two golf courses, hills, lakes, three parks, and two leisure facilities are all part of the neighborhood.

The Hansen Dam Aquatic Center, a 40-acre (16 ha) recreational facility on the northwest side of the Hansen Dam Recreation Area, includes a 9-acre (3.6 ha) recreation lake used for fishing, pedal boat rental, and public boating. The center also includes a 1.5 acres (0.61 ha) swimming lake, 50 public restrooms, 25 showers, 20 dressing rooms, and several picnic areas. Users of the park may also jog, picnic, and take boating classes. During each weekend over the summer, the aquatic center received up to 2,000 visitors.
The American West Museum, which opened in 1988 and is situated in a modern Mission Revival-style structure, is committed to preserving and exhibiting the history of the American West, with a growing collection of over 41,000 objects. The Autry Foundation, founded by film actor Gene Autry (1907-1998), lovingly known as The Singing Cowboy, funded and donated the initial collection and construction. Starting with the Spirit of Discovery, which highlights exploration—including North America's earliest nomadic hunters, 16th-century Spanish voyagers, and 18th-century Franciscan missionaries—and ending with the Spirit of Imagination, which traces the portrayal of the West in film, radio, and television—the collection is presented thematically and in roughly chronological order on the museum's main and lower levels.
